A good, but sobering, read

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/07/31/suffering_from_roid_rage/?page=1

This is a really good article by Boston Globe writer Dan Shaughnessy. It’s refreshing to see such candor from a Boston hometown writer.

As a Twins fan, this is bittersweet. I watched David Ortiz grow into a big league hitter, but he was never as good as he seemed in Boston. Like the article says, he used to hit the occasional homer, but his body was always ailing.

I guess we now know how he fixed that ailing body problem. And I think now we know just how dramatic a difference performance-enhancing drugs can make.

  1. God David Ortiz pissed me off for all those years after leaving. Giving us next to nothing and suddenly becoming a star somewhere else. Now i feel vindicated. I remember a few years ago when the red socks (yes that’s right socks) were playing in the Dome and he hit this towering home run but it hit a speaker and fell into play and it became only a double or single (cant remember which). After the game he said something along the lines of “i hate playing here”. God what a loser! He wouldn’t have that attitude if he hadn’t been roiding it up and getting that big head (literally and figuratively). In fact he’d probably have nothing without those roids and without the twins.
